Project Engineer

Job Purpose Statement: Perform functions to conceptualize, design and develop new models of mechanisms to meet customer needs, utilizing CAD equipment.

Job Functions:

• Work with proposals, estimates and sketches, confer with customers, internal personnel and vendors, research historical file data to determine project feasibility.
• Plan design concept for new models and mechanism involving application of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Make initial sketches, layouts, schematics and detail drawings including general arrangements, installation, piping and foundation needs, and review design plans with supervisor, sales representative and customers as necessary.
• Analyze product components and make necessary calculations, and design for characteristics of material, strength, and safety requirements.
• Prepare bills of material, product structure, purchase requisitions and validation sheets.
• Contact vendors for quotations and component availability
• Work closely with production to make adaptations, modifications, or changes to designs as warranted to resolve problems.
• Travel to customer facilities to develop design concept and project direction and to resolve design problems.
• Maintain records, files, drawings, bill of material, back up disks and other pertinent materials. Keep abreast of new developments, trends and practices in the field.
• Contribute to optimum product safety through individual and committee efforts.
• Responsible for part-time immediate supervision of detail drafters and designers. Assist employees and eliminate ordinary operating difficulties.
• Perform other related duties as assigned. Follow safety rules and keep work area in a clean and orderly condition.
