Hiawatha CUSD #426 is looking for a full-time Afternoon Custodian.
Seeking someone to help provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop. This position receives Health and Dental benefits along with Paid Time Off. The applicant must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.

2. Demonstrated aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities.

REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance
JOB GOAL: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
- Regulates heat, ventilation and lighting systems to provide temperatures and light appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Shovels, plows, and/or sands walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate.
- Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors work properly and areas of egress are clear of obstructions.
- Sweep or vacuum classrooms daily, clean and disinfect desks, dust furniture. On work days when school is not in session, clean all walls, windows, blinds, furniture. Wash and wax floors and/or shampoo carpets.
- Cleans corridors after school each day, and during the day when the condition requires it.
- Cleans and disinfects toilets and urinals, minimum once a day. Mop restroom floors, minimum once a day. Cleans all drinking fountains daily.
- Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently if necessary.
- Keeps the grounds free from rubbish.
- Maintains a positive and service-oriented attitude with all staff, students, and community members.
- Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
- Cleans all whiteboards daily.
- Performs Lunchroom sanitation, including wiping/sanitizing of cafeteria tables and floors after lunch and breakfast serving times.
- Makes minor building repairs under the supervision of the Director of Maintenance.
- Reports major repairs needed promptly to the Maintenance Director.
- Reports immediately to the principal any damage to school property.
- Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons are turned off.
- Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisitions such needed replacements from the Director of Maintenance far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodial duties.
- Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
- Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by district administrative personnel.
- Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
- Completes a daily time and log sheet as requested by the Director of Maintenance.
- Attends appropriate training sessions as requested by the school district to upgrade skills for this position.
- Performs all other duties assigned or requested by the Maintenance Director and/or district administrative personnel.
- Demonstrates regular and punctual attendance.
- Maintains a professional, positive attitude, and personal demeanor when dealing with the public as a member of the school staff.
