LATINX DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COUNSELOR

HOPE of Ogle County is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and compassionate individual to work with clients at HOPE of Ogle County as a Bilingual Domestic Abuse Counselor. The counseling position will focus on Spanish-speaking and or Latinx victims and survivors. Everyday responsibilities include providing crisis intervention on the 24-hour helpline, supporting victims and survivors with counseling, and facilitating referrals and linkages of victims to community resources to raise up survivors of domestic abuse. There will also be opportunities to facilitate community education presentations about domestic abuse and HOPE of Ogle County services to service providers in the local area.

DIRECT SERVICE
- Provide confidential domestic abuse counseling, support, education, and information with an emphasis to immigrant and Latinx and Spanish-speaking clients through crisis walk-in and in-person sessions.
- Provide periodic courtroom advocacy for Spanish speaking clients.
- Educate clients on VAWA immigration law and provide referrals and advocacy to immigration services.
- Provide community presentations about domestic abuse, healthy relationships and HOPE of Ogle County services.
- Provide domestic violence support and education to clients and others who contact the agency.
- Available to provide counseling services, economic advocacy, immigrant resources, referrals and education at outreach office and at the main facility.
- Provide crisis line response.
- Document direct service and maintain client records in a timely and accurate manner.
- Provide transportation in accordance with HOPE of Ogle County’s Personnel Policies to assist clients with access to resources.
STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate and complete 40-Hour Certified Domestic Violence Training
- Maintain confidentiality of all clients and uphold duties as a mandated reporter of child abuse and Adult Protective Services reporting.
- Initiate contact with education systems, community groups, businesses, providers and other groups to acquaint them with HOPE of Ogle County and the prevention services we provide.
- Schedule presentations to address specific needs/concerns of groups on topics associated with domestic and dating violence with an emphasis in serving the Latinx population.
- Participate in continuing education, training and follow developments in the field of domestic violence and immigrant survivors
- Maintain client records, service plans, and other paperwork in a timely and accurate manner
- Participate in the training of staff and volunteers for 40 Hour Domestic Violence training
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in social service, mental health or related field
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, in English and Spanish
- Ability to set limits and priorities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Complete 40 Hours of Domestic Violence certified training
- Submit to a Criminal Background check
- Submit to CANTS (DCFS) Background Check
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
