Assistant Attorney General – Transactional Attorney
The Office of the Minnesota Attorney General is seeking an attorney with an interest and experience in transactional work. The successful candidate will represent state agencies in transactional matters, with a primary focus on administering grant programs, assisting in real estate matters, and negotiating contracts. The position may also involve occasionally representing agencies in litigation arising out of transactional matters. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified professional to join a highly committed team that handles important transactional work for the State of Minnesota.
The Office provides legal representation to state agencies for a wide variety of transactional matters and related litigation, including leases, licenses, and contracts; real estate; public financing and bond issuances; private equity investments; intellectual property matters; and other transactional matters. An initial focus of this position will be assisting with legal issues concerning the administration of federal grant funds. The successful candidate will also assist on a wide range of real estate and contractual matters. These include reviewing title insurance documents and issuing title opinions for land the State is acquiring; reviewing, negotiating, and drafting real estate documents; providing legal advice on real estate related issues; and assisting agencies in reviewing and negotiating other contracts. Representative clients include Minnesota Housing Finance Agency, Minnesota Department of Administration, Minnesota Management and Budget, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, the Minnesota State Board of Investment, Board of Soil and Water Resources, Pollution Control Agency, and Department of Natural Resources.
Requirements: Applicants should be highly attentive to detail. Good academic credentials, excellent written and oral communication skills, strong research and analytical abilities, good judgment and character, and a strong professional work ethic are essential. Applicants must be able to serve the public with a high level of distinction. The Office prefers attorneys with at least three years of transactional experience, but will consider candidates with less experience.
