Shaw Media has an opening for an HR Generalist/Benefits Analyst. You will be a key member of the Human Resources team, providing comprehensive support in both general HR functions and employee benefits administration. This role requires a blend of strong interpersonal skills, HR knowledge, and in-depth expertise in employee benefits. Some travel between offices in the Northern Illinois area is required.



HR Generalist Duties:

  • General administration which can include safety, accident reporting, file management, service initiatives, FMLA administration and tracking, pre-employment screening, new hire, and termination coordination.
  • Provide initial support for employee relations issues.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in the HRIS system.
  • Assist in recruitment and termination processes.
  • Stay informed of current HR laws, regulations, and company policies.


Benefits Analyst Duties:

  • Responsible for all facets of 401k administration, including bi-weekly payroll funding, terminate and limit monitoring, audit preparation, Form 5500, and census reporting.
  • Reporting for various benefit programs, billing reviews, and statistical analysis.
  • Reporting for quarterly payroll review, annual W2 review, EEO, ACA, etc.
  • Manage benefits enrollment and termination process, ensuring a smooth transition for employees.
  • Maintenance of accurate information across employee benefits platforms.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant federal and state regulations governing employee benefits (HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, etc.).



  • A college degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience.
  • Strong understanding of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid leave.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HR information systems (HRIS).
  • Must have advanced analytical skills and reporting experience with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Practice a high level of confidentiality.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of HR laws and regulations, particularly those related to employee benefits.
  • Experience with Paylocity, Plansource, Dynafile, Docusign, and Sharepoint is a plus.
