Maintenance Worker I
The United City of Yorkville is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Maintenance Worker I in the City's Parks Department.
The primary duties of this entry level position include athletic and ball field preparation, turf maintenance, and the beautification of each site. This position will be required to work after hours and weekend shifts, Tuesday - Saturday work schedule as needed. In the winter season, snow plowing duties during and after normal working hours is required.
The Maintenance Worker I also performs a variety of tasks using manual labor and operates one or more types of equipment including wing style mowers, zero turn mowers, skid steer tractors, ball fields groomers, tractors with attachments, CDL type trucks, string trimmers, chain saws, walk behind paint sprayers, sod stripper, power hedgers, and others. The work often requires extensive physical strength and endurance including the ability to stand, bend, pull, push, kneel, regularly lift more than 75 pounds at any time, and to withstand exposure to the elements. This person is expected to work outside in all conditions.
The essential job duties for this position include daily maintenance of athletic fields including grooming, grading, rolling and lining of baseball fields and weekly painting of soccer fields. Other duties including trash control, trimming, and aerating, seeding, fertilizing and weed control. Performs landscape maintenance including watering, weeding, mulching, planting and shrub and tree trimming.
Three to five years of park experience or relevant related athletic field maintenance experience is preferred, but not required. Small engine repair, mechanical skill or construction trades knowledge are a plus. The qualified applicant should hold a class B CDL (or required to obtain within 6 months of hire) with air brake endorsement and be willing to obtain a USDA operator pesticide license within 12 months of hire (City will assist with training). Must be a self starter and work well with others. Excellent customer service skills and a high school diploma or equivalent are required. Starting salary is $44,255.76.
