Community Service Officer

The Village of Oswego Police Department is seeking applicants for the part-time position of Community Service Officer. Expected starting pay between $15 and $20 per hour, depending on qualifications. This CSO assignment is to assist the department with certain service calls.  CSOs perform non-criminal assignments such as completing police reports, enforcing village ordinances, and directing traffic.  This position will issue parking citations, answer questions regarding village ordinances and complete reports as needed.  CSOs will also assist police officers in patrolling festival grounds at large community events, helping with crowd control, traffic, parking, etc.  The CSO position can involve extensive standing, bending and walking in all types of weather.

Candidates should possess strong communication, customer service and organization skills; must have the knowledge and ability to perform tasks in computer applications including word processing and spreadsheets; and have the ability to work both independently and as team member on projects.

Candidates must be a US citizen age 18 years or older; possess a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid Illinois driver’s license and a good driving record.  Top candidates will possess 1-2 years of experience in a strongly related field and demonstrate customer service skills and proven abilities to deal effectively with the public.  Knowledge of city ordinances, streets and geography is a plus.  The selection process includes a telephone interview, personal interview, a polygraph examination, medical examination (including drug screen), and background check.  The estimated start date for this position will be October 2023.  Disqualification for a previous position does not preclude a candidate from applying for this position.
